The French-speaking courses in journalism in Beyrouth
The Diplôme d'enseignement supérieur francophone de journalisme (DESJ >Diploma of advanced journalism studies) was created, in 1996, from a partnership between the Université Libanaise, the CFPJ and The Institut Français de Presse (IFP).
About 250 students have now graduated from this professional course. The curriculum combines theoretical teaching and training practice.
The students are selected through a written and oral entrance examination. In order to take the entrance examination, students should have a bachelor's degree. The teaching staff includes by both university lecturers and media professionals, who are either French or Lebanese.
During the course, the students are trained in different types of print, TV and radio techniques and in different editorial genres.
At the end of the first year, they all work on an in-school newspaper project. This is published as a supplement of Nahar, one of the foremost Arabic daily newspapers in Lebanon.
This curriculum offers high quality teaching combined with professional internships which help the students to keep with the reality of the media and to enter the work environment.
Nowadays, a large number of graduate alumni hold down important positions in French-speaking or Arabic-speaking print and audiovisual in Media, in Lebanon and countries around.
Since the year 2007 and the recruitment of the 13th group of student, this diploma has become a 2-year professional masters. The students will therefore have the opportunity to do long-term internship during the second year in masters course.
